Léon Nagant, a Belgian entrepreneur, created the Nagant M1895 Revolver, a seven-shot, gas-seal revolver for the Russian Empire.
The Nagant M1895 had a unique “gas-seal” system that moved the cylinder forward when the gun was cocked to close the gap between the cylinder and the barrel, increasing the muzzle velocity of the bullet and enabling the weapon to be suppressed. It was chambered for the proprietary cartridge 7.6238mmR. (an unusual characteristic for a revolver).
In reality, the entire bullet is covered for this purpose by a 38mm long shell. This way, early Nagant users would avoid dealing with gases of black powder.
