A submachine gun called the MP 40 (Maschinenpistole 40) uses the 9mm Parabellum cartridge. During World War II, the Axis powers made extensive use of this technology, which was created in Nazi Germany.
Developed in 1938 by Heinrich Vollmer with influence from its predecessor the MP 38, it was heavily utilized by infantrymen (particularly platoon and squad leaders), and by paratroopers, on the Eastern and Western Fronts as well as armoured fighting vehicle crews.
Because of its cutting-edge and contemporary features, it became a favorite among soldiers and well-known in numerous nations after the war. Even though Hugo Schmeisser did not participate in the design or production of the MP 18, the Allies frequently referred to it as “Schmeisser.”
