The United States Submachine Gun, Cal..45, M3 is an American submachine gun that was adopted by the U.S. Army on December 12, 1942. [12] The M3 had the same chambering. Although it was less expensive to make in large quantities and lighter than the 45 ACP bullet used by the Thompson submachine gun, it was less accurate. [12] Due to its striking resemblance to the mechanic’s tool, the M3 was often referred to as the “Grease Gun” or simply “the Greaser.” [13]
The M3 entered frontline duty in the middle of 1944 with the intention of replacing the Thompson. In the Korean War and subsequent wars, the M3A1 version was employed.
