The Lee-Enfield, also known as the Enfield, is a bolt-action, magazine-fed repeating rifle that was the primary weapon of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the first half of the 20th century. From the time of its official adoption in 1895 until 1957, it was the standard rifle of the British Army. The typical “Short, Magazine, Lee-Enfield” variant is abbreviated as the “SMLE” in reference to the WWI versions.
