The Junkers Ju 52/3m (nicknamed Tante Ju (“Tante Ju”) and Iron Annie) is a transport aircraft designed and manufactured by the German aerospace company Junkers.
Development of the Ju 52 began in 1930 under the direction of German aeronautical engineer Ernst Zindel. The aircraft design incorporated corrugated dural foil as a means of resistance, which was highly unusual at the time. The Ju 52 made its first flight on October 13, 1930. Initially equipped with one engine, it was mass-produced with three engines.The first basic production model, the Ju 52/3m, saw service primarily as a 17-seat airliner or cargo aircraft by various civilian operators during the 1930s. After the rise of Nazi Germany, thousands of Ju 52s were procured as the country’s main military transport. The main production model was the Ju 52/3mg7e.
